The reason for concern of obscenity in the legal aspect that Dr. Halavais discussed during the lecture made a lot of sense but it is still fuzzy to this day.
I think if people are going to take a "risk" of going to jail over publishing pornography then they must really believe that people need to see it or be exposed to it. I can understand in the U.S. anything that is obcene is illegal but it is still being done. It's kind of like the same things with drugs, people are selling them on the streets even though it is illegal but they know they still have that chance of getting caught but they know they can get money for it because there is a need for it.
I think whether selling drugs or selling porn illegally in todays society or many years ago, there is still a need for it and I don't think that any country could totally eliminate these things because it would be impossible. It's just like when they tried to abolish drinking people were still making moonshine and other types of alchohol and taking that chance of getting caught.
