{May 2, 2006}   Legal aspects of obscenity

The reason for concern of obscenity in the legal aspect that Dr. Halavais discussed during the lecture made a lot of sense but it is still fuzzy to this day.

I think if people are going to take a "risk" of going to jail over publishing pornography then they must really believe that people need to see it or be exposed to it. I can understand in the U.S. anything that is obcene is illegal but it is still being done. It's kind of like the same things with drugs, people are selling them on the streets even though it is illegal but they know they still have that chance of getting caught but they know they can get money for it because there is a need for it.

I think whether selling drugs or selling porn illegally in todays society or many years ago, there is still a need for it and I don't think that any country could totally eliminate these things because it would be impossible. It's just like when they tried to abolish drinking people were still making moonshine and other types of alchohol and taking that chance of getting caught.

{May 2, 2006}   Porn Myths……..

After viewing the porn myths website it opened my eyes and changed some of my views on certain things. Not to say that I am being close minded or anything but I do have certain views about things but it did give me some insight. If the media portrays the porn industry in a negative aspect then people will assume that the porn industry is something "bad" or "dirty". People who are not "educated" or "informed" about porn and stippers or hookers then of course people will just assume the worst because thats how people's minds work.

I think that if people go into things with an open mind then they won't always assume the negative. But I think one of the major impacts is one's own culture. I can't really say if porn is really accepted in our culture or not because, to me it is something that is not really brought up that much.

The porn myths website would be something good for someone who really doesn't know much or who is interested in it. I know with this class for someone who has a negative opinion of porn and other stuff this might help the realize that not everything they hear is true.

{May 2, 2006}   Who has a good blog?

I think one of the blogs I like to read and see what there opinion is, http://amyrichardson.wordpress.com/. I think that she talks about some interesting topics and really gets to the point and is descriptive in her blogs.

{May 2, 2006}   Porn in Religon….?!?!?!

After listening to the lecture I was very curious about what religon "promotes" porn….I'm not sure if it is something that is good or not. My father is a Carpatho Russian Orthodox Priest and I could never imagine the church promoting sex or porn in that way. I guess with my parents bringing me up, my views are somewhat formed by them but not really because I do my own things and have my own opinions about things especially with things in the church.

But anyways, I guess what i'm trying to say is that it would be hard to believe that a religon would be promoting sexual intercourse with godly type figures and religons promoting porn. To me since I just think of the church and religons that are against pre-marital sex I couldn't imagine these type of religons and I certainly haven't heard of any religons like that and maybe there is a reason for it.

I really don't know what else to talk about with this because I am kind of in shock and curious at the same time about these other types of religons and what they actually believe in.

{May 2, 2006}   Porn for idea’s????

Using porn for your own idea's might be something good for someone who is not experienced enough in the bedroom. I don't think that most things that go on in porns or realistic but then maybe they are…..i'm not in other people's rooms or where ever they perform their sexual behaviors. In my own opinion I don't think that people who watch porns should expect their partners to experiment with what they are doing in the porn.

If my boyfriend asked me to try something that he saw in a porn I would think it would be kind of weird because I would think that he would be thinking about the people in the porn. My who thing is whatever happens happens….I don't plan on things and I don't turn to other people or things and get "tips"  from them. But for others it might be good for them and their partners might enjoy it.

For example, Dr. Halavais gave the senero of women cuming on men…do men really get turned on by that? But he mentioned that if someone mentioned it in the relationship it might be a turn off, which I can relate to. I guess it's all on the prefernces of the person who might be engaing in these situations.

{April 4, 2006}   Using porn as sex ed…..

After listening to Dr. Halavais's lecture 18 it made me think about how when I took sex ed in middle school and in high school it didn't really teach me about sex. It didn't tell us how we would perform sex and only really told us how we have babies and how to have safe sex. I can understand why someone would want to watch a porn to see how they would perform during sex and to watch them to get tips.

I think that people might think that there weird because they think that there the only ones that are doing this because they don't think it's normal. I can also understand why they would want to watch it because it's weird and uncomfortable for people to watch or talk about porn when you really don't know much about it. I think that it might be a good way for people to learn about sex and not really look at it as something that is sick and degrating.

I think I feel this way because I was never really taught by anyone, I was more shown than anything and learned as I went. But I don't think that child porn or violent types of porn should be used as a teaching technique. I also agree with Dr. Halavais as using porn as keeping people safe and using it as a teaching technique but he is right when they are not showing that they are putting condoms on or other protective ways they are keeping safe. But I think that they should because it might show as something more positive and as a teaching technique.

I think that not everyone is taught about safe sex and don't know what it is because of the lack of education about it. I think that they should say there is a risk of contracting AIDS and STD's. I think that if they make porns more educational rather than doing it as entertainment I think that there would be more positive outcomes.

I understand that when you recieve an e-mail it can sometimes be a risk when opening it. I don't understand though why people are sending pornographic e-mails. I would think that there would be some kind of regulation and filtering on the internet so children and others who do not want to see or shouldn't see it are still getting it. I think that parents and the government should be regulating what is being sent through cyberspace and what there children are recieving on the internet.

I know spam is one of the biggest pain in the necks to recieve because all it is, is junk mail and who really wants to recieve it. I know it is easy to click delete but when you have half of your mailbox is filled with porn or other junk it becomes an anoying and just because you report it, it doesn't mean that your going to stop recieveing it.

I can understand why the porn industry is concerned about it because it doesn't make them look good when children are recieiving it when they don't know what it is. But like I said before I think that regulations need to be put into place and children should be watched because you never know what they are looking at online.

{March 1, 2006}   Choice or no choice??

In response to Patricks blog on porn being a choice I agree with him that you do have a choice no matter what background you come from.

Anyone can make the choice if they want to go to college or not or if they want to do porn. I think that no matter what their family values are that these individuals are going to do what they want no matter what their family says.

I agree that just because you don’t have money you can’t go off to college. There are many ways that these potentous students can recieve full scholarships or government grants to go to college. I think that it is either a form or laziness or they just don’t think they are capable of succeeding.

I do think that in the case of the sex slaves those families are not giving them a choice because they want the money. I feel in some cases they don’t care what happens to their children as long as they get the money

I do feel that Patrick did leave something out of his blog. I feel that just because you don’t listen to what your family has to say what your doing after you graduate high school or even if you graduate high school are these parents or families supporting them or are they just letting them do whatever they want because there on there own now? I know that I said in the begining of this blog that I do agree with Patrick but are these parents really telling there children not do it? Are they telling them there are better ways of making money and it would be an embarressment to the family? I know that they make their own choice and no one can stop them because thats how I feel about certain things but wat about their morals and family values?? They can come from the richest family but not really know what family is like because they were raised by their nannies. I think that just because you have hundreds of oppurtunities people want to rebel and do something different.

In all honesty whether you are against porn or not the way Nevada has there system set up is the way to go. I don’t think just because you wear a condom in these videos people will not want to watch them.

I think that this is the safest and smartest way to go about it. I think this will save people from breaking out with herpes or other STD’s and help prevent HIV or AIDS.

I think that this should be used throughout the porn industry because you won’t have to worry about anything and you can’t be more safe than that. I don’t think that the actors will mind because how many of them actually enjoy it? For anyone to say they enjoy it I think they are lying. We’ve heard in statements that they said it “looks” like they are enjoying it. But once again it’s all for the paycheck.

I feel they can regulate it as much in other states but by these “actors” wearing condoms it won’t prevent them or stop them from anything they weren’t doing before.

{March 1, 2006}   Straight men for gay porn??

I guess you can say that lecture 12 really caught my eye considering this is the second post that I am putting up about the lecture. I guess this second part really caught my eye about straight men performing gay sex in gay porn for the money.

In the one clip that was showen I was suprised that the amount of men in gayporn are straight. I couldn’t believe that these women let there husbands or boyfirends perform these sexual acts and watch it.  I know the one guy said he was getting paid alot more money in gay porn than he was getting paid in straight porn but to me there degrating there body because they are turning to gay porn just because of the money.

As much as they look like they are enjoying it on camera are they actually? I guess if the money pays right you act in any way you want just to get a pay check. Once again I don’t think that “selling” my body in that way is something I would do for all the money in the world. I think what attracts these people to this is the money and maybe they don’t feel that they could do anything else because they won’t be getting a large paycheck.

I guess in all reality you have to do what you have to do in order to survive, but money isn’t everything.
