Cyberporn & Society…..

I thought I might just add a little comment in at the end of my blogging about this class. I have to say I am quite impressed with how this class was. I came into this class with an open mind and just accept whatever I learned. I do have to say that I have a different outlook on the porn industry and how they run. I think I have more respect for them and I would think that others would to after this class.

I thought the toppics that were presented really got to the point and some of them I would never think of and a lot of them caught me by suprise but it really was a good learning experience. I guess  I ner thought they would offer a class like this in college but maybe more classes like this one might open the eyes of others on a more down to earth topic rather than some other boring class where you have to take it just cause.

The only thing that was the down fall of this class was working on wordpress…..I think if I were to do it all over again I would blog on another site because i've had too many problems on this site and publishing my articles were hard because they would keep getting deleted when I would try to publish them….I would just get too frustated and I would have to re-write what I wrote.

If I wasn't graduating in May I would of hoped that there would be a part 2 of this class because I think there could be a lot more topics discused and it might draw in more people to take more classes like this……

The future……….

I think porn in the furture will become more acceptable and will be better produced. I think with better technology it will advance faster than we know it. I think it will be more widespread on the internet and maybe on tv.

I think it is kind of bizzare for someone to have a surgery on their brain and just think of doing something and it will be done. I think that we are letting are brains run wild and if we were to sit down and just think of e-mailing someone and it actually being done I think it's kind of laziness that are society is proving to other countries. I tnk it would be cool to have new inventions that you wouldn't think. But i'm sure if it will actually go as far as like the Jetsons….I think that, that is going to far but then again I guess you can never know because one day we or our children or grandchildren my actually live in a world like that and with technology we never see.

Where does privacy exist??

Well I guess the saying is true….you learn something new everyday. I was suprised that I never knew there was no such law about privacy in the Bill of Rights and the consititution. I didn't know that it was the courts who came up with the privacy rights. I think privacy rights are important in especially todays society. I guess Dr. Halavais was right about back then, not really having privacy rights to really care about.

Now with so much going on everyone has the right to privacy because people have the right to keep to themselves if they want. I couldn't imagine what it would be like with everyone knowing my business because of the absences of privacy rights. I know how it is with everyone gossiping especially in high school and everyones story would change and what really happend who be totally different then what was being said. I've realized by gossiping there is a lot more hatred and stress than is needed.

The one thing in todays society that really does bother me is actors and actresses don't really have their right to privacy because everyone is in there business and following them and causing more problems than they should. I don't think that the right to privacy is really being enforced because in all honesty who wants to be followed all the time??? I do agree that as Americans we have the right of privacy….so therefore it should be enforced.

Free advertising

I think that free advertising for certain companies might be a good thing. I do see people who have playboy stickers on their cars or people who post other websites on their aim profiles or in myspace and when I am interested I will look at the website or whetever it is they have I look into it. I think that it is a good startegy for these major companies to let them “advertise” their company or website in that way because what is better than free advertising?

I think that it is a smart way of doing business because people are letting other people know about something they might hjave looked into or had some kind of contact with them and was satisfied and are wanting to promote it. I think that any company that is against that is wrong in the sense that it is not doing any harm

But I do think it is different when people are promoting companies for other reasons that are not positive. I also think that people who try to work off of companies and people who use virtual children or other such things are wrong and I do think they should be penelized because of that….it is falseification…….

The Gay Porn Star as Icon

After reading the article On Gay Porn by Michael Lucas I think it sheds like on the gay porn industry. No only by encouraging safe sex but also using porn as an educational tool towards gay men. I know that for gay people in this society it is not one of the easiest things to come out and say because it is not exactly acceptable yet and people still think that only gay people can of AIDS and so on but he uses good information about the industry.

One of the parts that really stuck out in the article was him discussing the fact that gay men look up to these gay porn actors as role models. They also look to gay porn as a teaching tool because it might not be something that one has encountered yet because maybe they are not completey comfortable with their sexuality. But it is important for role models to spread the positive info around such as safe sex and educating people on what could happen if they don't practice it. I think that people follow what other people do and if it's good enough for them to do it then it might as well be good enough for others to do it. He states that he aggressively push this message in the media, within my movies and by speaking out on this issue whenever the opportunity arises.

I think that it is imporant for him to say that because people need to educated and taught right from worng in anything. No one just knows just cause. Everything is learned and I think that this article should show others what the gay porn industry really is rather than what they think it is.

Soliciting children online

I think soliciting children online is something that is really scary to a parent or gurdian. You always hear of stories on tv how children meet child preditors online who pretend that they are children themselves online and they try and get them to meet and then they realize that they are not meeting who they really thought they are.

A good example of this is something that happend recently. On dateline they had a story air about child predetors in a community and they had a decoy saying that they were a young teen and they were looking to meet someone older online. These men actually ended up coming to this house where they wanted them to meet and dateline was actually there to meet them. I think that with this story that was aired on a national televison show proved to parents that anything can happen online and that they should keep an eye on their children activity online.

In my own opinion I feel that they really aren't cracking down on these child predetors because you never really know who you are talking to online and I myself might have been talking to a child preditor when I was younger and talked in chat rooms and through aim. But I think that something like this needs to be enforced because things are happening to these children that they don't really know about.

Child pornography…

I can totally understand why Dr. Halavais does not like lecturing on this topic. I don't think that this is one of the easiest topics to talk about but it something that goes on and needs to be addressed. I really don't understand why someone especially a grown adult is "attracted" to child pornography.

I can relate to this topic in a way because I know someone who works with someone that is a known child "rapest" and after talking with my firend she said that it is very hard for her to work with this person because they have to keep an eye on him in case their is a child that walks into this place of work. He has told the employees that are his friends, that he is tempeted by children because he is attracted to them in a way that he would be attracted to adults if he was interested in them. I think that this is one of the most degrating thing that can happen to a child because they are innocent and a lot of it is caused by abuse.

I do believe that people who are attracted to children in this manor do have a way of viewing it. Whether it is on the web or via tv or something..(not sure how it really works) but these people know it is illegal but yet they still view it and take that chance of getting caught. I guess I always wondered why people have thoughts or like viewing this kind of thing.

Police presence in strip joints??

I was stunned when Dr. Halavais said that in strip clubs in New Jersey, cops had donut rooms in the strip clubs. The first thought that came into my mind was there getting paid to be in strip clubs when there are other things that are probably more serious going on in there community.

I guess with the studies that have been viewed with crime rate lowered with the police presence may do something good for that part of the community but what about the rest of the community? I think that an issue like this is not really that important because were they really having major issues with crime by these strip clubs? I don't think that a community should be paying these cops to sit around in a strip club and basically have them selves entertained in this manor. I would hope that the people in these communities were informed of what is going on and if it is something that is a positive effect on a community then keep it up but what about for another community where the crime rate has shifted to another part of town??

Do I agree with the zoning law???

After hearing about this zoning law in the lecture I thought it was kind of interesting that adult bookstores could not "settle down" whererver they want. I do think that they have a right to sell this kind of stuff as long as they are selling to adults and not to minors. I do think that it is unfair to try and move them out of a community that does not except them but they do have the right to be there.

After hearing about the court cases that were discussed about this with the two different communities and one was thrown out of the court and the other. I do think that the first example that was given about the town saying that there can be no adult store within such miles between the church and so on is not fair because they they are not obeying the 1st amendment. I think with the second example given they are letting them in the town but just giving them some boundaries but not totally saying they can't have an adult book store.

Porn through “snail mail”…

After listening to the lecture about recieving porn ads in the mail back in the day I couldn't believe it. I know that the major part of the lecture was spent on the Miller case/test but the thought of recieveing porn in my mail disturbed me.

I think it was a great solution to stop recieving porn in the mail by having the "do not send" list. It's amazing to me that those types of mailings went out through 1st class mail. I also think that every person has the right to do whatever they want and I think that it was a good thing also that they came up with a law stating that no one can open up anyone else mail but there own. I feel that, that it is one of the most important laws to this day because everyone has the right to privacy.

As I understand now you have to subscribe to these types of things such as magazines and catalogs and they send it in an undisclosed package of some sort. I feel that this way people can get whatever they want without others knowing and that is how it should be. I think now people might be a little more open about stuff like that but what still stands out is what is acceptable in a community and what is not.
